Adventure Made Easy for Seniors

Group trips planned with comfort, safety, and fun in mind

Launched in 2024, the Mercer County Council on Aging’s Senior Travel Program quickly “exploded” in popularity because it takes the worry out of travel. You simply choose a trip, reserve your seat, and join a friendly group of peers—no need to drive, navigate, or manage logistics on your own.

We offer a mix of day trips and multi-day motorcoach tours to destinations like theaters, casinos, museums, ballgames, and scenic attractions. Every itinerary is designed at a senior-friendly pace, with comfortable transportation, plenty of breaks, and supportive staff or hosts along the way.

Types of Trips and How to Join

Day trips, overnight tours, and simple sign-up steps

Our travel program includes something for everyone, from quick getaways to bigger adventures, all offered at group-discount rates. Trips are announced in our newsletter and on printed trip lists, with clear information about dates, prices, and what’s included. Reservations are first-come, first-served and often fill quickly, so early sign-up is encouraged.

Senior Travel Program FAQs

What to know before you hit the road

  • Who can go on MCCoA trips—do I have to be from Mercer County?

Most trips are open to anyone interested, not just Mercer County residents, so you can invite friends or relatives from other areas to join you. The program is designed primarily for older adults, but age guidelines are flexible enough to accommodate spouses, companions, or friends. That means you can travel with people you already know and meet new friends along the way. If a specific trip has special eligibility rules, we clearly outline them in the trip description.

  • What kinds of trips do you offer?

We offer both day trips and multi-day tours, giving you options depending on your comfort level and schedule. Day trips might include casinos, theater performances, ballgames, shopping excursions, or museum visits, while longer tours feature multiple nights away at destinations chosen for their senior-friendly attractions. Each itinerary highlights key stops, included meals, and free time so you know exactly what to expect. Over the course of the year, you’ll see a variety of experiences—from simple outings to “bucket list” adventures.

  • How physically demanding are the trips—will I be able to keep up?

Trips are planned with seniors in mind, with a more relaxed pace than typical tours. We build in frequent breaks, rest stops, and opportunities to sit, and we prioritize accessible attractions whenever possible. If you prefer a slower pace, there are often options to sit out certain segments or participate at your own comfort level. We encourage you to talk with us about any mobility concerns ahead of time so we can help you choose the right trip and explain what accommodations are available.

  • How much do the trips cost, and what is included in the price?

Costs vary by destination and length of trip, but group rates usually make them a good value compared with planning the same trip on your own. Typically, the price includes motorcoach transportation, hotel stays for overnight tours, and tickets or admissions for featured attractions; some meals are included and others may be on your own. A deposit is usually due within a few weeks of reservation, with final payment dates and any cancellation policies clearly explained in the itinerary. In addition, a small portion of each fare helps support MCCoA’s mission, so your trip also gives back to local senior services.

  • How do I find out about upcoming trips and register?

Upcoming trips can be found in our newsletter, on our website, at the senior center, and through printed trip lists available at our front desk. When you see a trip you’re interested in, you can call or stop by to reserve your seat.  A registration form and deposit are required within 14 dys of signing up. Because trips require a minimum number of travelers and have limited capacity, we recommend signing up early to avoid missing out.

  • What options are available if the trip is already full?

Cancellations occur.  When ever there is an opening, we contact people on the waitlist to see if they are still interested in going.  We suggest anyone who is interested in the trip add their name to the waitlist. No payment is due when your name is on the waitlist.  We also monitor the waitlist to see about adding potential buses for that trip.
