Ongoing Activities You’ll Actually Look Forward To
A lively mix of games, classes, and social time for seniors in Mercer County
Our “Ongoing Activities” at the Mercer County Council on Aging are designed to make your week more enjoyable, not more complicated. Every day, you’ll find something different happening at the Celina senior center—exercise, games, line dancing, coffee chats, card nights, and more—so you can choose what matches your energy and interests. Most activities are walk-in and either free or very low cost, which means you can try new things without worrying about big fees or long-term commitments. You’ll meet people your age (and a bit younger or older) who are here for the same reason: to stay active, have fun, and feel part of a welcoming community. Many participants say their only regret is that they didn’t start coming sooner.

Answers to common questions about joining in
Do I have to sign up ahead of time, or can I just show up?
Most of our regular activities—like line dancing, bingo, coffee hour, and card games—are walk-in, meaning you can simply come at the scheduled time without registering. That said, certain special classes, craft workshops, or leagues with limited space may require advance sign-up so we can plan materials or seating. Those activities will always be clearly marked in our calendar or newsletter. If you’re ever unsure, just call the center and we’ll let you know whether you need to RSVP.
Are the activities free, or do they cost money?
Many weekly activities are completely free, including things like line dancing, coffee hour, and general social groups. Some events, such as special workshops or leagues like Wii Bowling, may have a small fee to cover prizes, supplies, or instructor costs, and we always keep those as low as possible. Any fees will be listed in the activity description so there are no surprises. If cost is a concern, please talk with us—our goal is to keep participation accessible to everyone.
I’m nervous about coming alone and not knowing anyone. Will I fit in?
Feeling nervous at first is completely normal, especially if you haven’t been in a group setting for a while. Our staff, volunteers, and regulars are used to welcoming new faces and will help introduce you around, explain how things work, and make sure you’re not left sitting alone. Many people who were hesitant at first now say their activity days are the highlight of their week. You’ll find a mix of ages, interests, and personalities—there’s truly a place for everyone.
How can I see the most up-to-date schedule of activities?
The best way to stay updated is to check our events calendar and monthly newsletter, where you’ll find days, times, and details for all “Ongoing Activities” and special events. You can pick up the newsletter at the center or request a mailed or emailed copy. When new activities are added or times change, we highlight them so they’re easy to spot. If you prefer talking to someone, you can always call the center and a staff member will happily walk through the current schedule with you. You can also visit the Activities and Programs tab on our website and look at the Event Calendar.
Can I help lead a class or suggest a new activity?
Yes—many of our activities are led or inspired by participants and volunteers who wanted to share a skill or hobby. If you enjoy teaching, organizing games, or introducing a new interest like a book club or art group, we’d love to hear your idea. We’ll talk with you about what’s needed and help you get started if it’s a good fit. Our schedule grows stronger and more meaningful when it reflects what our seniors truly enjoy, so your input is always welcome.
