Chore Services for Seniors in Mercer County

Safe, affordable help with heavy household tasks so older adults can stay independent at home

Our Chore Services program takes care of the jobs that have become risky or too strenuous, so seniors don’t have to climb ladders, lift heavy items, or struggle with outdoor work alone.

Help With Home Chores That Have Become Too Hard

Practical home maintenance support for Mercer County residents age 60 and older

Our chore team steps in when everyday home and yard tasks become difficult or unsafe for an older adult to manage. We focus on heavy or physically demanding jobs—like seasonal yard work and minor maintenance—so seniors can stay in a well-kept, safe home without risking injury.

Chore Services are available to eligible seniors throughout Mercer County, from Celina and Coldwater to St. Henry, Rockford, Fort Recovery, and the surrounding rural communities. Donations of $15.00 per hour are appreciated to help cover costs, but no one is ever turned away if they are unable to contribute.

A Safer Home Without the Risk

Keeping houses maintained while protecting seniors from falls and overexertion

By handling tasks like gutter cleaning and minor fix-it work, our chore team helps prevent common injuries and gives families peace of mind that their loved one’s home is safe, tidy, and manageable.

Chore Services FAQs

What families and seniors often ask about this program

  • Who can receive Chore Services from MCCoA?

Chore Services are available to Mercer County residents who are age 60 or older and need help with heavy or difficult household tasks. This includes seniors living in Celina, Coldwater, St. Henry, Rockford, Fort Recovery, and surrounding rural communities. Eligibility is based on age and residency, not income, so many older adults qualify for help. If you’re unsure, our team can review your situation and explain your options.

  • What kinds of chores can your team help with?

Our chore program focuses on tasks that are physically demanding or potentially dangerous for seniors. We assist with minor home maintenance like changing hard-to-reach light bulbs, installing grab bars, cleaning gutters, or addressing small repairs that improve safety. In some cases, we can help with deep cleaning in key areas. If a need falls outside our scope, we’ll let you know and may be able to refer you to other resources.

  • How much does Chore Service cost?

There is a suggested donation of $15.00 per hour for Chore Services, which helps cover staff time, travel, and equipment. However, this amount is only a guideline, and no one is denied service if they cannot afford to contribute. Our goal is to keep seniors safe and supported at home, not to create financial stress. Families are encouraged to give what they can, when they can.

  • Are the people coming into my home trustworthy and trained?

Yes—our chore team is made up of dedicated staff members who are vetted and trained for the work they perform. They understand the importance of treating seniors and their homes with respect, kindness, and care. Many have been with MCCoA for years and are known in the community as reliable, friendly helpers. You can feel comfortable knowing that the same trusted faces are returning to assist your loved one.

  • How do I request Chore Services or find out if this is the right fit?

To request help, simply contact MCCoA and let us know what kind of chores or home tasks you’re concerned about. Our staff will talk through your needs, explain what the program can cover, and help schedule a visit or place you on a waiting list if demand is high. If your loved one also needs lighter, routine housekeeping, we may recommend pairing Chore Services with Homemaker Services for more complete support. We’re here to help you sort through options so your family doesn’t have to navigate everything alone.
