Services are provided in all urban and rural areas of Mercer County.
Persons age 60 and over who reside in Mercer County and have a need for transportation are eligible for the service. Those under 60 with a disability are also eligible for transportation service (medical only).
Van service is available Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 2:30 pm in Mercer County and 9:00 am to 2:00 pm outside Mercer County. Doctor appointments should NOT be scheduled after 2:30.
When possible, van service should be scheduled 48 hours in advance. If clients cannot give 48 hours notice, they will be taken to their destination if driving time and spaces are available.
Priority destinations include medical and dental services, grocery shopping, other necessary shopping, banking facilities, social service agencies, legal services and trips to and from the Senior Citizen Center for the noon meal and other activities.
Trips may be canceled due to unsafe driving conditions, illness of a regular or substitute driver, scheduling conflicts, vehicle break down or other unforeseen circumstance.
Wheel Chair Lift
All vans are equipped with an electro-hydraulic wheelchair lift. Clients may use their own wheelchair or request the use of a MCCoA wheelchair. The MCCoA may require that a wheelchair ramp be installed for client and driver safety.
Purchase of Vans
Vans are purchased with federal dollars administered through the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) with ODOT supplying 80% of the cost. Grants are competitive.
Senior transportation is for all elderly persons with a valid need for service, however, state and federal regulations specify that first consideration be given to those most in need. Included are those who are disabled, ill or isolated; also clients with a low income, and persons age 75 and over.
